OMG description of
Kidney stone in Ayurveda...!
Do you know Kidney stone is such an illness in which
- The number of afflicted patients is increasing day by day all over the world,
- Once this disease occurs, it is more likely to recur,
- This disease causes severe pain to most people,
The survey found that about 12 percent of the world's population suffer from this ailment at some point in their life. The description of this disease is also found in Ayurveda under various names such as Ashmari, Mootrashmari, Mootra sharkara.
Modern medicine has described different types of kidney stones using modern technology such as chemical tests [laboratory tests], sonography [ultrasonography] and X-rays, CT scan, etc. Surprisingly, the Sushruta Samhita [about 2200 years ago] describes the type of kidney stones, its appearance, and type of associated pain, which is very similar to the description in modern medical science. ๐ฒ
In Ayurveda, any ailment or disorder caused by a physical cause is described mainly according to the three doshas of body namely Vata-Pitta-Kapha. Similarly, the description of urinary calculous has been described by Sushruta as the three main basic types of viz. Vataj, Pittaj, and Kaphaj.
Vataj Mootra-ashmari/ Vataj type of kidney stone
While describing the nature of Vataj type of renal stone Sushrutacharya says,
[Reference: Sushruta Samhita Diagnosis Location Chapter 3 Verse 10]
The Vataj type of kidney stone is dark in color, rough, unevenly shaped, hard, perhaps shaped like a thorny structure on the outside of a kadamba flower. This kidney stone at times obstructs urination, sometimes causes extremely severe pain.

In modern medical science, they have observed calcium oxalate crystals to be of dark color, having irregular margins, multiple projections are described in such matches with just in the same manner as the description of the above-mentioned vatashmari in Sushruta Samhita Nidan Sthana chapter 3 verse 10. Not only the structure, but the thorny shape of the thorns cause severe pain due to scratches on the inner skin [mucosal layer] as it moves down the kidney through the urethra.

to description of Vataj Mootra-ashimari.
If you look at the above images, you can see calcium oxalate is just as similar to the description of vataj kidney stone described by Sushruta. ๐ฒ
Pittaj Ashmari/ Pittaj type of kidney stone
Pittaj Ashmari is mentioned by Acharya Sushant as reddish-yellow or sometimes black in color. They look like lumps on the upper part of the Marking Nut [called Bhallataka] fruit and at times are colored like honey. This can sometimes lead to a burning sensation in the urinary tract.
Bhallatka's Knot [Fruit of Marking Nut]
Compared to the description in modern medicine, pittaj form corresponds to uric acid calculus, which is dark red in color and similar in morphological structure, as we see from the following photos. ๐ฒ
Actual Uric Acid Calculus is similar to the upper lump of the fruit of Marking Nut [Bhallatak]
Kaphaj Ashmari/Kaphaj type of kidney stone
Sushruta Acharya says that these are white, smooth, large in size, similar to the shape of a chicken egg, or similar to the color of a moha flower are kaphaj ashmari.
As these kidney stones are large in size, they obstruct the urinary passage and the accumulated urine causes dull pain to the patient.
Actual Cystine Calculus similar to เคुเค्เคुเค เค
ंเคก / เคเคซเค เค
เคถ्เคฎเคฐी, kafaj ashmari.
By reading the description above and looking at the photos, you will find that it is comparable to Cystine or calcium phosphate calculus. ๐ฒ
Mootra sharkara are small stones-sized kidney stones. This is called as gravels in modern medicine- a loose aggregation of small water-worn or pounded stones.
Overall, the descriptions of Vataj, Pittaj, Kaphaj, and Mootra sharkara are very similar to the description of urinary calculous [kidney stones] description mentioned in modern medical science. In ancient times, despite very few resources and equipment, with the power of observation and the knowledge Acharya Sushruta, gives correct information about kidney stone morphology and type of pain makes Ayurved be OMG Amazing Ayurveda ...!
OMG Amazing Ayurved fact-
Description of Kidney Stone mentioned by Acharya Sushruta [more than 2000years before is similar to the morphological structure of Renal Calculus.]
